After a nationwide search conducted by the Ohio Alliance of YMCAs and YMCA of the USA, the Buckeye Valley Family YMCA Board of Directors have selected Adam Shilling, as the next CEO. Adam will begin his duties on March 1, 2021, where he will succeed retiring CEO, Edward Bohren. The Board of Directors is grateful for Ed’s outstanding service and leadership during his more than two decades of service to our community.
Buckeye Valley Family YMCA Board President, Christian Robertson expressed his gratitude for the exceptional leadership of Ed Bohren and excitement regarding the future under Adam’s guidance, “Our BVFYMCA has been very blessed under Ed‘s leadership of our three branches. Through the hard work of our search committee, we have found someone to further grow our membership and impact our 3 central Ohio communities. Our Buckeye Family YMCA Board and Staff believe Adam has the passion and talent to lead our Buckeye Valley Family YMCA.”
Adam’s recent experiences as Association Executive Director of Membership and Program at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids have prepared him to become a CEO of a local YMCA organization. After years of operational stagnation, through coordinated efforts of the Operations, Finance, Human Resources, and Financial Development departments, Adam helped lead the successful implementation of policies and strategies which led to significant revenue growth. Staff morale was near an all-time low and through Adam’s leadership, staff became re-invigorated to work at the Y.
In contrast, his experience at YMCA of the USA provided him with an understanding of how to develop a long-term strategic vision and work with CEOs and CVOs at YMCAs across the country to align their activities to specific needs in their communities. He developed a system to codify best practices learned from the highest performing YMCAs across the country and guided more than 100 YMCA Associations to measure and respond to community needs through strategic plans and capital projects.
The passion for Adam’s career stems from a long family history with the Y. His father worked at the Y for 42 years and his wife’s father, grandfather, and great grandfather had long careers within the Y movement. His two young children have grown up within Y programs, and Adam can be found on the weekends volunteering as a coach for his daughter’s soccer and basketball teams. Adam’s most enduring hobbies include golfing, weightlifting, antiquing, gardening, and cooking.
