Arthritis Awareness Month 2

May is Arthritis Awareness Month, and at the Buckeye Valley Family YMCA, we’re proud to support members of all ages and abilities—especially those navigating the daily challenges of arthritis. With over 53 million Americans affected by this condition, we're committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals with arthritis can improve their health, manage their symptoms, and maintain an active lifestyle.

Movement That Matters

Staying active is one of the most effective ways to manage arthritis symptoms. The BVFYMCA offers a variety of low-impact fitness classes and water-based programs designed specifically to improve joint mobility, increase strength, and reduce pain. Programs such as Active Adult Aquatics, Gentle Yoga, and Chair Fitness are tailored to meet participants where they are—offering modifications and support every step of the way.

Trained Staff and Safe Spaces

Our instructors understand the importance of working within personal limits while still encouraging progress. Many of our wellness staff are trained in evidence-based programs that follow guidelines from the CDC and the Arthritis Foundation, ensuring that participants receive safe, effective, and empathetic guidance during each session.

Community and Connection

Living with arthritis can be isolating—but it doesn’t have to be. At the YMCA, we believe that wellness is about more than just movement—it’s about connection. Our group classes foster a sense of community where individuals can support and encourage one another. Members often find that the relationships built in class are just as valuable as the physical benefits of exercise.

Open to All

Whether you’ve just received a diagnosis or have been living with arthritis for years, the BVFYMCA is here to support your journey. Our facilities in Newark, Pataskala, and Zanesville are open to all, and our financial assistance program ensures that cost is never a barrier to better health.

This Arthritis Awareness Month, take a step toward strength, flexibility, and connection. Visit your local Buckeye Valley Family YMCA to explore programs that can help you move more freely and live more fully—one step, stretch, or splash at a time.
