Based on your answers, your swimmer has already mastered the skills taught in our most advanced group swim lessons class. We encourage you to consider participating in a YMCA youth swim team. SWIM LESSONS OVERVIEW

Registration

Monthly Program Registration: Opens the 1st of each month for Members to register for the next month. Non-member registration for the upcoming session opens on the 15th of each month. 

Example: Registrations for February Swim Lessons opens to members on January 1st. February Swim Lessons open to non-members on January 15th.

Parent/Child Classes Age 6 months-3 years

Levels A & BWater Discovery and Water Exploration

            With a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skill through interactive play. All the while, parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision when in/on/around the water.

Preschool ClassesAges 3 years-5 years

            Level 1 Water Acclimation

                        Beginner level, no swimming experience. Children in the Water Acclimation class should be able to safely sit on the side of the pool for 30 minutes and will follow a teacher's instructions. Lessons help increase comfort with underwater exploration & introduce basic self-rescue skills with assistance.

            Level 2 Water Movement

                        Beginner level, some swimming experience, will put face in water & can glide about 5 ft. assisted.  Encourages forward movement in water & basic self-rescue skills performed independently. 

            Level 3 & 4Water Stamina and Stroke Introduction

                        Intermediate: can swim width of pool, unassisted, is comfortable putting face in water.  Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. Goal is to swim-float-swim the length of the pool, tread water and introduce swim strokes.

Youth ClassesAges 6 years-12 years

            Level 1 & 2Water Acclimation and Movement

                        Beginner level with little to no swimming experience. Goal is to become more comfortable in the water, have forward movement and basic-self-rescue skills performed independently.

            Level 3Water Stamina

                        Intermediate: can swim width of pool, unassisted, is comfortable putting face in water.  Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. Goal is to swim-float-swim the length of the pool and tread water independently

            Level 4Stroke Introduction

                        Intermediate ,can swim the length of the pool using front crawl and back crawl. Tread water for 1 minute. Introduces basic stroke technique and works on perfecting strokes and breathing patterns. 

            Level 5 & 6Stroke Development and Mechanics

                        Advanced can swim 50 - 75 meters of each stroke. Goal is to refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes & improve endurance, swimming 150 meters any stroke or combination of strokes.

Teen & Adult ClassesAges 13+

            Water Acclimation and Stroke Improvement

                        Beginner to Intermediate level of swimmer. Although taught in a group, teaching is adapted to the individual.            

Adaptive Classes Ages 5 years-12 years

Swim lessons for individuals with special needs and disabilities. The Y believes every student should be able to learn to swim regardless of physical ability, cognitive function, congenital or acquired injury, disability or chronic illness. Student(s) are accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water.

 

PRIVATE/SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS 

Ideal for all ages and abilities. Time and day are arranged with an instructor prior to registration based on the participant and instructor’s availability. Lessons are custom tailored to the participants goals. Registration is open year-round (in-house only).

7, 30-minute lessons: $206 member$400 non-member

Semi-Private Swim Lesson Overview:
2 participants: 1 instructor (the YMCA does not pair you with another participant)

PRIVATE COACHING

For advanced swimmers. Private swim coaching from a USA Swimming and US Masters certified Swim Team Coach. Custom tailored swim coaching with emphasis on stroke technique, starts and turns, and endurance training. Sessions are scheduled through the Aquatics Director.
