Parent/Child Classes |Age 6 months-3 years
Levels A & B|Water Discovery and Water Exploration
With a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skill through interactive play. All the while, parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision when in/on/around the water.
Preschool Classes|Ages 3 years-5 years
Level 1 | Water Acclimation
Beginner level, no swimming experience. Children in the Water Acclimation class should be able to safely sit on the side of the pool for 30 minutes and will follow a teacher's instructions. Lessons help increase comfort with underwater exploration & introduce basic self-rescue skills with assistance.
Level 2| Water Movement
Beginner level, some swimming experience, will put face in water & can glide about 5 ft. assisted. Encourages forward movement in water & basic self-rescue skills performed independently.
Level 3 & 4|Water Stamina and Stroke Introduction
Intermediate: can swim width of pool, unassisted, is comfortable putting face in water. Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. Goal is to swim-float-swim the length of the pool, tread water and introduce swim strokes.
Youth Classes|Ages 6 years-12 years
Level 1 & 2|Water Acclimation and Movement
Beginner level with little to no swimming experience. Goal is to become more comfortable in the water, have forward movement and basic-self-rescue skills performed independently.
Level 3|Water Stamina
Intermediate: can swim width of pool, unassisted, is comfortable putting face in water. Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances. Goal is to swim-float-swim the length of the pool and tread water independently
Level 4|Stroke Introduction
Intermediate ,can swim the length of the pool using front crawl and back crawl. Tread water for 1 minute. Introduces basic stroke technique and works on perfecting strokes and breathing patterns.
Level 5 & 6|Stroke Development and Mechanics
Advanced can swim 50 - 75 meters of each stroke. Goal is to refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes & improve endurance, swimming 150 meters any stroke or combination of strokes.
Teen & Adult Classes|Ages 13+
Water Acclimation and Stroke Improvement
Beginner to Intermediate level of swimmer. Although taught in a group, teaching is adapted to the individual.
Adaptive Classes| Ages 5 years-12 years
Swim lessons for individuals with special needs and disabilities. The Y believes every student should be able to learn to swim regardless of physical ability, cognitive function, congenital or acquired injury, disability or chronic illness. Student(s) are accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water.
