From a child's first experience in the water to an adult improving their strokes, YMCA swim lessons help swimmers build confidence, learn water safety, and develop skills at their own pace.

Registration

Members can register for the following month’s swim lessons beginning on the 1st. Non-member registration opens on the 15th.

Example: February lessons open to members January 1 and non-members January 15.

Parent & Child

Build comfort, swim readiness, and safer habits around water for children ages 6 months–3 years.

Preschool

Build water confidence, basic self-rescue skills, and independent swimming skills for children ages 3-5.

Youth

Develop water safety, endurance, and stroke technique for youth ages 6–12.

Teen & Adult

Learn to swim or improve existing skills with instruction adapted to individual abilities and goals for ages 13+.

Adaptive Swim Lessons

Supportive swim instruction for children ages 5–12 with developmental disabilities. Lessons are adapted to each child's individual abilities, comfort, and learning needs.

Choose the Right Swim Lesson

Explore each age group below to find the level that best matches the swimmer’s current skills.

Levels A & B | Water Discovery & Water Exploration

With a parent in the water, infants and toddlers build comfort and swim readiness through interactive play. Parents also learn water safety, drowning prevention and the importance of supervision around water.

Level 1 | Water Acclimation
For beginners with no swimming experience. Children should be able to safely sit on the side of the pool and follow an instructor’s directions. Builds comfort with underwater exploration and introduces assisted self-rescue skills.

Level 2 | Water Movement
For beginners with some swimming experience who will put their face in the water and can glide about 5 feet with assistance. Builds forward movement and independent self-rescue skills.

Levels 3 & 4 | Water Stamina & Stroke Introduction
For intermediate swimmers who can comfortably put their face in the water and swim the width of the pool without assistance. Builds endurance and self-rescue skills while developing swim-float-swim, treading water and introductory strokes.

Levels 1 & 2 | Water Acclimation & Movement
For beginners with little or no swimming experience. Builds water comfort, forward movement and independent self-rescue skills.

Level 3 | Water Stamina
For intermediate swimmers who can comfortably put their face in the water and swim the width of the pool without assistance. Builds endurance, swim-float-swim and independent treading skills.

Level 4 | Stroke Introduction
For intermediate swimmers who can swim the length of the pool using front crawl and back crawl and tread water for one minute. Introduces stroke technique and develops stronger strokes and breathing patterns.

Levels 5 & 6 | Stroke Development & Mechanics
For advanced swimmers who can swim 50–75 meters of each stroke. Refines major competitive strokes and builds endurance toward swimming 150 meters using any stroke or combination of strokes.

Water Acclimation & Stroke Improvement

For beginner to intermediate swimmers. Group instruction is adapted to each swimmer’s ability and individual goals.

Swim instruction for children with disabilities. Lessons are designed to help each swimmer learn regardless of physical ability, cognitive function, injury, disability or chronic illness.

A parent or guardian accompanies the swimmer in the water.

Private coaching for advanced swimmers with a USA Swimming and U.S. Masters Swimming certified Swim Team Coach. Sessions are tailored to individual goals with an emphasis on stroke technique, starts, turns and endurance.

Sessions are scheduled through the Aquatics Director.
